The Animal Emergency Centre was set up as a co-operative effort between a number of Brisbane practices to provide a professional out of hours service. All patients were returned to their regular general practice for ongoing care.
In the year 2000 a new practice was built at Underwood . The hospital was built in conjunction with Veterinary Specialist Services. This provided not only 24 hour care for our patients if required but also access to specialist level medicine and surgery. Later, further specialties in cardiology, ophthalmology and dermatology were added to the range of specialist care available.
2005: The practice was bought by the current directors, who had been employees with a total of 15 years experience in the business. The name of the practice was changed from Animal Emergency Centre to Animal Emergency Service. This was done to reflect our ambition to look after people and their pets when they need it. This involves more than just having a veterinary centre. The director’s vision has allowed the Animal Emergency Service to develop the most professional and dedicated emergency and critical care facilities and services available.
2008: The hospital moved to its current site in Underwood opening a state of the art hospital facility with room to move . Simultaneously Animal Emergency Service opened a new hospital at Carrara to extend our services to animals on the Gold Coast.
2008: The Pet Intensive Care Unit opened, providing higher levels of care for those pets most in need. The PICU offers high staff to patient ratios and the equipment and expertise needed for state of the art care, for our much loved small animal friends.
Both practices continue to provide relief for veterinarians who can switch their phones off and refer patients who require round the clock care to our hospital knowing they will be looked after to the highest standard available. Pet owners can also feel more comfortable taking their pets home after illness knowing that help is available around the clock should they deteriorate.
